Santa Barbara has long been a place where ideas travel easily. Shaped by Spanish, Mexican, and Indigenous heritage, softened by ocean air, and grounded in a creative, independent spirit, the city invites reflection as much as it encourages ambition. It was an inspired setting, then, for the sessions at Engage!25 Santa Barbara.

This was also the only large-scale Summit of 2025, and a powerful counterpoint to the more intimate Engage! gatherings held throughout the year. With more than 500 attendees gathered at The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara, the Summit carried a different kind of energy. Bigger rooms, broader perspectives, and a program designed to speak not just to where the industry is now, but where it is headed next. Across three days, world-renowned planners, designers, strategists, creatives, and brand leaders shared insights shaped by decades of experience, as well as a willingness to keep evolving. What made the sessions exceptional was not just the caliber of speakers, but our shared belief that excellence is a practice and curiosity is essential.

The Setting

Creative Director Tyler Speier’s brief was deceptively simple: make the opening session feel like downtown Santa Barbara. The execution, however, was layered and carefully rooted in place. Drawing inspiration from the city’s Mexican and Spanish architectural heritage, the general session space became a visual homage to sun-washed courtyards, tiled walkways, and terracotta-hued facades.

The stage design featured a striking mosaic of vintage Talavera tiles, instantly transporting attendees into the heart of the city. Tables lined the ballroom in rows of blue, gold, and terracotta as a nod to Santa Barbara’s sweeping staircases and architectural symmetry. Every design choice reinforced a sense of arrival: not just at a venue, but within a city known for creativity, craft, and culture. It set the tone perfectly for spirited discussion, bold ideas, and meaningful learning.

The General Sessions

Day One Sessions

The Summit opened in true Engage! fashion with a warm welcome from founders Rebecca Grinnals and Kathryn Arce, grounding the room in the values that define the brand. What followed was a carefully paced sequence of voices that reflected the breadth and depth of the industry.

Attendees heard from Marcy Blum, Calder Clark, Lindsey Conklin of Le Rêve Films, Easton Events, Birch Event Design, and Simon T. Bailey, alongside an important update from Wish Upon a Wedding. Together, these sessions explored leadership, storytelling, creativity, resilience, and purpose. These weren’t just abstract concepts, but lived practices shaped by real-world experience. Speakers shared hard-earned lessons alongside forward-looking perspectives, offering both inspiration and practical takeaways. It was a reminder that longevity in this industry is built not only on talent, but on adaptability and a commitment to continual growth.

Day Two Highlights

Our second day in Santa Barbara began with unmistakable energy from all our attendees and speakers. From the first session, there was a buzz that signalled focus and excitement. First, founders Kathryn and Rebecca returned to the stage, followed by Creative Director Tyler Speier, and then industry icon Mindy Weiss, who shared the exciting announcement of new her Ring Pop collaboration. And the illustrious names just kept on coming… David Stark, Jason Rhee, Bryan Rafanelli, and a compelling conversation between Danielle Frankel and Carrie L Goldberg.

Next up was one of the most impactful sessions of Engage!25 Santa Barbara. Jefferson Fisher, a trial lawyer and communication expert, delivered a masterclass on communication and confidence. He walked us through practical ways of choosing the right approach and keeping conversations clear and productive. His message was that confidence is a feeling that cannot be conjured on demand, but “comes from the doing.” By breaking down how language and structure, he offered tools attendees could immediately apply, from eliminating unnecessary apologies to speaking with greater precision and authority.

The afternoon continued with gems of insight from Pinterest’s Nadine Zylstra, Global Head of Programming and Originals. Nadine shared emerging Pinterest Predicts trends and best practices for leveraging the platform strategically. Her perspective underscored a broader shift in weddings toward more bespoke, detail-driven, and intentional celebrations. The day concluded with further insights from Sarah Haywood, Todd Fiscus and Rishi Patel, as well as Cindy Novotny. Attendees left energised and thoughtfully challenged.

Day Three: Breakout Sessions

Our last day of a Summit is always about depth and insight specific to each field, and Santa Barbara delivered. The morning breakout sessions allowed attendees to select conversations most relevant to their businesses and ambitions. Topics ranged from luxury social strategy and scalable growth to purpose-driven design, data intelligence, and the power of representation. Sessions also explored how to position brands more intentionally, reduce friction in the client journey, tell stories that attract meaningful press, and build businesses designed not just to grow, but to endure.

The final breakout sessions brought attendees together in industry-category idea exchanges, moderated by leaders across planning, design, hospitality, photography, and creative supply. These conversations were candid and forward-looking, making the sessions a fitting close to the educational portion of a Summit defined by generosity of knowledge.

Engage!25 Santa Barbara reminded us that learning thrives where culture, creativity, and community intersect. In a city shaped by layers of history and open horizons, attendees left with so much more clarity, creative ambition, and practical knowledge than they came with. We can’t wait to see what exciting ideas come about #BecauseOfEngage!
