If Engage!25 Santa Barbara were a wine, it would be the one you cellar for years. Complex but generous. Layered, luminous, and best enjoyed long into the night. So it felt fitting that our final gala dinner unfolded slowly, like a perfectly aged vintage, and lingered right through to the final note.

The event took place in the grand ballroom of The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara. The theme was the evocative ‘Midnight in Wine Country,’ a love letter to California’s vineyards interpreted through a distinctly glamorous lens. Think Wine Country after dark: moody, refined, a little decadent. A night designed to open up slowly, deepen with time, and end on a high.

Décor & Details
Creative Director Tyler Speier and his team ensured the night flowed like a silky Pinot Noir right from the start. Guests arrived to styled vignettes in deep jewel tones, surrounded by lush florals and hundreds of candles glittering in the night. With cocktails in hand, they made their way into the ballroom, through an enchanting tunnel wrapped in vines and twinkling lights. Along the way, they passed immersive performers dressed like vineyard nymphs. Like stepping from vineyard into cellar, the shift was immediate and immersive.

Inside the ballroom, Midnight in Wine Country was revealed – a space that balanced California ease with the mischief of the witching hour. Olive trees anchored the room, while custom bars, dark green banquettes, and taupe velvet chairs added depth and texture. Custom-built tables, created just for the night, were paired with shimmering linens, modern glassware, and floral-patterned plates that nodded subtly to vineyard botanicals. Delicately embroidered napkins and elegant menu cards finished the setting. As attendees took their seats, fog drifted gently across the tabletops, like cool coastal mist rolling through vines at dusk. Candle walls flickered in the background, while navy draping pulled the palette deeper into the night. Overhead, textured lighting cast olive-branch patterns across the ceiling, while a wine-hued dance floor hinted at what was waiting after dinner.

Food & Beverage
In keeping with the theme, dinner was a true homage to California Wine Country. Each course was crafted around the night’s featured wines from Alma Rosa Winery. These were pairings chosen to support the wines, not compete with them. The first course set a bright, balanced tone: roasted beetroot paired with goat cheese mousse, California orange, pistachio, arugula, and white balsamic dressing. Earthy yet bright, it landed like that first clean sip that resets the palate. Next came foraged mushroom ravioli aperti, a dish that leaned into depth and umami. Then the entrée brought the richness with a beef filet paired with lobster, golden whipped potatoes, and black truffle jus. For after-dinner delight, guests moved outdoors to the terrace, where sweet and savory delicacies closed the meal under the stars (including a stop at the local fan-favorite, McConnells Fine Ice Cream Truck).

While wine anchored the evening, the cocktail program added its own expressions. The Moonlit Muse blended Absolut pear, St. Germain, lemon, and activated charcoal, finished with a white orchid garnish. The Celestial Spark brought effervescence to the table, mixing sparkling sangria with Chambord and pomegranate seeds. Finally, for guests opting for something non-alcoholic, Lemon Luster delivered sparkling blueberry lemon, mint sprigs, and lemon wheels.

The Rhythm of the Night
After the last course, the evening shifted gears again, effortlessly. The dance floor filled as guests were drawn by laughter, music, and entertainment by Elan Artists, and that unmistakable feeling where dinner gives way to celebration. Surrounded by moody vineyard lighting and the glow of candlelight, we were transported by an array of professional dancers and musical maestros. What began as a refined tasting suddenly felt like the kind of late-night cellar gathering where one more song turns into five, and conversations stretch well past midnight.

Attire
The dress code was the kind of brief our Engage! attendees love to get creative with: floral forward, jewel tones, and beading. Guests embraced rich hues and textured details, creating a visual harmony that mirrored the décor itself. Deep emeralds, wine reds, midnight blues, and soft metallic accents moved through the space and glittered on the dance floor. As always, fashion became part of the story. Another layer added to the character of the night.

So if Engage!25 Santa Barbara were a wine, this gala would be its standout vintage: expressive, confident, and beautifully composed. A reminder that the best moments – just like the best bottles – are meant to be shared, savored, and remembered long after the last pour. Cheers to a night we’ll be talking about for years to come!
