Some locations do not need a theme imposed upon them; they simply speak for themselves. The Maybourne Riviera’s rooftop restaurant, abc kitchens riviera, is just such a space. Suspended high above the coast, the Engage!26 French Riviera welcome party embraced the hotel’s clean architectural lines, endless sea views, and the effortless elegance of the Côte d’Azur, allowing the space to lead the experience naturally. As guests arrived in shades of ocean blue, the terrace glowed in the last light of the evening, blurring the boundary between sea and sky. Champagne flowed, seafood glistened on ice, and the evening began to unfold with the kind of warmth that encourages strangers to become friends. It was a welcome party shaped by mood, connection, and the undeniable magic of the Mediterranean.

Setting the Scene: Where Sea Meets Sky
For the Engage!26 French Riviera welcome party, creative director Emma Gold leaned fully into the relationship between structure and setting. The rooftop was transformed into an immersive Riviera garden lounge that allowed the views and landscape to remain the focal point. The overall design direction softened the restaurant’s modern minimalism with warm textures, sculptural greenery, and intimate seating pockets. Large-scale tree installations anchored the design, their thick natural trunks rising into canopies of dense suspended greenery and trailing vines. Climbing vines softened existing columns, topiaries lined the terrace edge, and lanterns and candles cast warm pools of light.

Throughout the space, curved cream sofas, soft neutral cushions, Mediterranean-blue patterned accents, and gold-framed coffee tables created an atmosphere that felt closer to a beautifully styled coastal residence than a formal event. The florals were also deliberately restrained. Low blue-toned arrangements sat on coffee tables, small compositions along the bar, nothing competing with the Mediterranean panorama beyond. The sculptural bar became both a focal point and a natural gathering space. It was framed overhead by cascading greenery from the suspended installation and accented with blue glass cocktail menus by TPD Design House. The overall effect was that of a Riviera garden: elegant without stiffness, and a perfect marriage of structure and openness.

A Feast for the Senses
The food was, in a word, exceptional. In several more words, it was a beautiful, abundant love letter to the Mediterranean in peak season. Guests were invited to move freely between food stations that celebrated the easy sociability of Côte d’Azur dining. A seafood bar was presented dramatically on ice inside a wooden canoe, serving the freshest catch of the coast. A pasta bar offered handmade trofie, tagliolini, and gnocchi paired with a variety of sauces. Freshly prepared throughout the night, it added a sense of theatre that nobody could resist. And dessert? Menton lemon tartlets, Vanilla Tropézienne, dark chocolate with olive oil and fleur de sel, and the undeniable showstopper: a croquembouche wave that tasted every bit as good as it looked.

Champagne by Billecart-Salmon flowed throughout the evening alongside Whispering Angel rosé and signature cocktails inspired by the region itself. The Riviera Spritz combined Tanqueray gin, Menton limoncello, prosecco, and sparkling water into something crisp and sunlit, while the Caroni layered Ketel One, strawberry-infused Campari, and Cocchi Vermouth di Torino for a richer, more sultry counterpart. Together, the food and drink experience captured the essence of Riviera entertaining.

Le Chant de la Mer
As daylight softened into dusk, conversations deepened, the terrace lights began to glow more warmly against the darkening sea, and live music floated across the rooftop from Alexandra Miller and her band. Regular fixtures on the Monegasque music scene, they read the room with the instinctive ease. Later, the DJ stepped in to carry the momentum forward. The first of night of celebration for Engage!26 French Riviera, but certainly not the last!

Dress Code & Attire
The dress code for the evening, ‘Shades of the Sea’, was perfectly suited to the setting. The terrace that evening was a moving study in blue: navy and cobalt, aquamarine and teal, the soft grey-blue of early morning and the vivid sky of midday. Guests arrived in silks and linens, in patterns that echoed the water, in fabrics that caught the breeze. Accessories also leaned into the setting, with shell purses, sculptural jewelry, and woven accessories adding playful Riviera touches. It was a crowd that understood the fashion assignment, and more than delivered with exactly the kind of understated glamour the French Riviera does best.

By the time the last guest headed to bed, one thing was clear: the week ahead was going to be something to remember. The Engage!26 French Riviera welcome party had set the bar – and set it beautifully!
