Light hits differently on the Côte d’Azur. It dances across the water, sets terracotta rooftops aglow, and dazzles off the graphic white lines and glass facades of The Maybourne Riviera, making it glitter like a diamond. (No wonder it’s known as the ‘Jewel of the Riviera!’) And it was here, suspended above the Mediterranean and the ultra-glamorous principality of Monaco, that 125 extraordinary professionals from 13 countries arrived for Engage!26 French Riviera. This stretch of coastline has long drawn artists, icons, and visionaries. For a few unforgettable days, it became the backdrop for a different kind of creative exchange – one designed for depth and genuine connection.

For Creative Director Emma Gold, this destination holds particular significance. The South of France has been part of her story since childhood, with summers spent drinking in the golden light, the effortless glamour, and the Riviera’s singular energy. “It’s the kind of place,” she says, “that always leaves you wanting more.” Engage!26 French Riviera was her love letter to it, and her vision shaped every detail.

Our home for the retreat, The Maybourne Riviera, is nothing short of extraordinary. Perched above the ancient village of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, where Coco Chanel entertained Picasso and Dalí, and the Grande Corniche captured Hitchcock’s imagination, its striking silhouette rises against the sky. One of the most breathtaking vantage points on the entire Côte d’Azur, it boasts panoramic views that stretch toward Monaco and the Italian coast. This iconic setting captured the essence of the Riviera and elevated every moment of the experience for attendees.

The Brand & Paper Details

As any luxury event professional will attest, every great gathering deserves a visual language to match. TPD Design House arrived with a vision rooted in Riviera Modernism. Restrained and architectural, at its heart was the bespoke “E” icon drawn directly from The Maybourne Riviera itself. Its form echoed the hotel’s cascading geometry, its planes stepping forward and receding along the cliffside, revealing the mark through negative space.

This sensibility carried through every touchpoint, from invitations and programs to menus and signage. A sun-washed palette of travertine, citron, peach, azur, sky blue, coral, limestone, graphite, and almond mirrored the coastline’s shifting light. Typography nodded to Art Deco elegance and the handwriting of Pablo Picasso himself. Together, these elements grounded Engage!26 French Riviera in place, mood, and unmistakable Riviera style.

Gifting & Registration

Registration at Engage!26 French Riviera was never going to be a simple check-in. It was an experience in its own right, set against the dramatic backdrop of The Maybourne Riviera’s lobby. A modernist triumph, it features soaring ceilings, sweeping views over Monaco, and a striking sculptural centerpiece by Louise Bourgeois. Here, guests were welcomed with their nametagalopes and event books before stepping into Engage!’s signature interactive gifting experience, reimagined through a Riviera lens.

This curated edit of local treasures was designed to spark conversation and celebrate the region’s rich artisan culture. Guests browsed and selected from a sun-soaked spread of South of France essentials. Vintage-style sunglasses and silk scarves for golden-hour strolls, a backgammon set for lazy afternoons on the terrace, locally made soaps, lavender-scented keepsakes, and tea towels printed with a hand-illustrated ratatouille recipe. Practical, playful, and local, each piece was chosen to feel like a memory in the making. The space buzzed with conversation as guests explored, compared, and connected. It was a warm welcome that set the tone for the days ahead.

Sessions & Workshops

The sessions and workshops took place in The Maybourne Riviera’s Riviera Restaurant. It is a space that feels suspended between sky and sea.  With its curving furnishings in powdery pastel hues and an ever-shifting panorama of sailboats and mega-yachts beyond the terrace, it carried a lightness that shaped the tone of every session. A circular stage anchored the room, encouraging openness and flow. Delicate blue and white florals, led by airy delphiniums, provided an elegant nod to the French countryside.

Programming was intentionally designed around personal development, peer-led exchange, and expert facilitation, with a structure that prioritized depth over volume. Opening sessions brought together voices from across hospitality, design, and planning, setting the stage for thoughtful dialogue on taste, trust, and longevity in a changing luxury landscape. Speakers and facilitators included luminaries such as Marcy Blum, Lynn Easton of Easton Events, Greg Finck, Jack Ezon of Embark Events, and Matter of Form’s Anant Sharma, alongside Engage! founders Kathryn and Rebecca, and the leadership of The Maybourne Riviera itself. Together, they explored the questions the industry is asking: What does luxury actually mean to today’s client? How do you build a business that lasts? What does it take to produce truly global events with precision and cultural intelligence?

Woven throughout was a structure that made space for those bigger questions to land. Each day moved from keynotes and panel discussions into Freeda Network-curated small groups, where the most meaningful conversations often took place. These sessions created space for honesty about challenges, expectations, and the evolving standards of our industry. By the final day, the focus turned toward integration: what to take home, what to refine, and what to build next.

The Welcome Party

The opening night unfolded in true Riviera style, with a Welcome Party that let the setting lead. The design drew directly from The Maybourne Riviera’s clean lines and panoramic blues. Guests arrived in shades of the sea that mirrored the horizon beyond. A suspended tree installation anchored the interior space, inviting guests to gather beneath it as conversations began to flow. Beautifully styled food stations, including fresh seafood, handmade pasta, and a dramatic croquembouche wave, paired effortlessly with Billecart-Salmon champagne and signature cocktails. Old friendships rekindled, new ones began, and the week ahead felt full of possibility.

The Lunches

No visit to the South of France is complete without a beach club afternoon. So for lunch on day two of Engage!26 French Riviera, attendees headed to La Môme. Steeped in the spirit of Édith Piaf herself, this private club is where effortless Côte d’Azur glamour meets joyful celebration. Under striped umbrellas, the afternoon began with the ease of a long Mediterranean lunch: artichoke salad, tomahawk beef, rosé in hand. But La Môme rarely stays quiet for long. Bongo drums pulsed, The Phly Boyz had the crowd singing, and before anyone quite realized it, the tables had become dance floors and a parade of flags were waving through the air. No one does a party quite like the French!

The following lunchtime offered something altogether different. Just minutes along the coast from The Maybourne Riviera, the medieval village of Roquebrune Square felt like stepping back in time with its cobblestone lanes, lemon trees, and lavender-lined paths. Attendees gathered in the village square for a relaxed, market-style lunch. Food carts offered sandwiches, baguettes, and salads while guests wandered and absorbed the village charm. It was a gentle pause in the rhythm of the retreat, as well as a chance to experience our destination from a new angle.

Night Two Celebration

If the welcome party celebrated the sea, then dinner on night two belonged to the garden. Dinner unfolded on the lawn at The Maybourne Riviera, where an open-air pergola evoked a Provençal evening in full bloom. Dressed in fanciful florals, guests gathered for cocktails and to enjoy the perfect Mediterranean views as the sun dipped below the horizon. Tables were dressed in rich greens, burgundy, and soft pinks, softened by natural linens and arrangements that moved beyond the traditional, with succulents and exotic stems woven throughout. A sculptural cake by Bastien Blanc Tailleur, surrounded by blooms, anchored the escort card display. Dinner brought good food, easy conversation, and music… oh, the music! Opera first, then songs that everyone could sing along to. It was the kind of night no one was ready to end.

Small Group Experiences

At each Engage! gathering, attendees have the opportunity to choose from a series of small group experiences. Designed as an open afternoon of choice, they are invited to explore the region in whatever way felt most meaningful. Some chose speed: supercar drives through the winding coastal roads, sea adventures along the glittering shoreline. Others chose culture: a walking tour through the streets of Monaco, or a visit to Parfumerie Galimard in Èze, where attendees created custom fragrances in one of the region’s most storied perfumeries.

Back at The Maybourne Riviera, a different kind of discovery unfolded. Attendees leaned into wellness and restoration through Pilates, sound baths, and the Surrenne Wellness Lounge, part of Maybourne’s holistic approach to longevity and well-being. Others shook up a cocktail and mocktail masterclass. Whatever route they took, every path led back to the same place: a deeper connection to the destination, to the community, and to themselves.

The Gala

The final night of Engage!26 French Riviera produced goosebumps from the very first moment. Guests gathered first outside, where over 2,000 candles flickered as dusk settled over the Mediterranean and anticipation built. When the doors to the ballroom opened, they revealed rich tablescapes of deep green and black, layered florals, and more candlelight. Performers weaved between tables, music and excitement building throughout the meal. By the time the brass band led a procession out of the dining space, everyone was ready to hit the dance floor.

And then came another surprise. The dress code had called for Monte Carlo Magic, and the after-party made good on that promise, roulette wheels and blackjack tables transforming the property into a private casino that kept the room playing, laughing, and doubling down until the very last hand.

To everyone who brought Engage!26 French Riviera to life, including our extraordinary attendees, our visionary partners, the incomparable team at The Maybourne Riviera, and the endlessly talented creatives behind every detail: thank you. The French Riviera has a way of making everything feel both timeless and urgent, and these few days together were a reminder that beauty and connection are worth pursuing at every turn. The conversations begun here don’t end when the suitcases are packed. Carry them forward. The next Engage! is just around the corner!
