At Engage! events we don’t do ordinary. Lunch is never just lunch. A break is never just a footnote on the itinerary. The way we see it, every pause in the program is an opportunity to tell the story of a destination through food, design, and shared experience. That’s why, over the years, our luncheons and themed breaks have become some of the most beloved parts of the Engage! experience. They’re environments built for connection and inspiration, giving attendees a chance to mingle while immersing themselves in local culture, history, and flavor. Themed breaks and lunches at Engage!26 Maui ranged from an elegant oceanside lunch-with-a-view to a relaxed picnic, with pineapples and shave ice making memorable appearances in between.

Shore Thing: Lunch on the Ulana Lawn
Set in The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua gardens, overlooking the Pacific, our first luncheon was a love letter to coastal living.

Theme & Décor
The design for the lunch celebrated contemporary coastal elegance with a layered palette of blues that echoed changing ocean tones. Tables dressed in a mix of blue linens were generously spaced across the lawn, so everyone could enjoy those uninterrupted views. On each, garden-inspired floral arrangements sat within weathered driftwood. Marine references were also layered throughout: starfish and shells, woven rattan chargers, blue glassware, and shell-shaped menus with a delicate nautilus motif.

Menu
The menu continued the refined, coastal mood. A first course of salmon ballantine was served with English peas and smoked labneh, before moving on to organic chicken breast served with silky sunchoke purée and mushroom fricassee. Dessert offered a fitting island finale: coconut panna cotta paired with lilikoi-compressed pineapple, lilikoi gelée, and crisp coconut tuile. Throughout lunch, the gentle sounds of local violinist Don V. Lax floated across the lawn, creating a soundtrack as soothing as the surf.

Grab & Go: A Picnic Lunch in Bloom
On day three, the luncheon took a more relaxed approach. In between sessions and afternoon activities, attendees were invited to collect a beautifully prepared picnic and relax in the gardens.

Theme & Décor
The lunch unfolded between Banyan Tree restaurant and the Aloha Lawn, blending tropical charm with the romance of an English summer fête. The design direction took a turn toward botanical elegance with a refined palette of white, pale stone, and gentle pastels. White banquet tables, cocktail tables, and low picnic lounges with woven rugs and floor cushions created a layered layout. Pastel striped and gauzy ivory runners complemented small arrangements in soft colors. The Benoit Jazz Duo set the most perfect Maui mood, encouraging everyone to slow down before the afternoon unfolded in whichever direction they chose.

Perhaps the most unexpected photo opportunity came courtesy of a beautifully restored vintage Porsche Roadster wrapped in Engage!26 Maui branding. Proof that even a grab-and-go lunch can have serious curb appeal!

Menu
Guests assembled their own island picnic from a curated selection of wraps, sandwiches, salads, and local snacks. Huli huli chicken wraps, prosciutto sandwiches, grilled asparagus wraps, poke bowls, fresh fruit salads, pineapple crunch orange salad, potato mac salad, Maui Style potato chips, and locally made granola bars offered plenty of choice for every appetite.

The star, however, was the drinks station from Embellish Maui. They served up floral popsicle mocktails in hibiscus-rose and jasmine-lemon flavors. They were as delightful to look at as they were to drink.

Relaxed and elegant, this luncheon proved that sometimes all you need is great food, good company, and a beautiful place to spread out a blanket.

The Pineapple Break
You could say this break was the pineapple of everyone’s eye! It celebrated Maui Gold pineapples, a fruit grown exclusively on the island that are sweeter and juicier than other varieties. The creative team had turned the foyer into a tropical tasting experience. Guests enjoyed a medley of pineapple-inspired bites, from sushi rolls and pork buns to mini pineapple upside-down cakes and even house-made pineapple jerky. Towering above it all stood a spectacular floral pineapple sculpture formed of sunflowers and palm fronds.

Meanwhile, out on the terrace, the Maui Gold team demonstrated the theatrical art of carving fresh pineapples with a machete. They shared fresh samples alongside fascinating insights into how this iconic island fruit is grown.

The Shave Ice Break
Hawaii has two iconic frozen treats, and Engage!26 Maui made sure attendees experienced both. In fact, you could say we ‘shaved’ the best for last! A colourful shave ice station served finely shaved ice in flavours including lilikoi, pineapple, and coconut, served in coconut bowls. Unlike traditional snow cones, Hawaiian shave ice is feather-light, allowing the syrup to soak through completely, and has been a Hawaiian institution since it was brought to the islands by Japanese immigrants in the early 1900s. Dole Whip, the pineapple soft-serve that was created for Disney, was also served up in waffle cones and cups. Together, they were very n(ice) indeed, and offered a refreshingly sweet way to beat the tropical heat.

From refined coastal dining to botanical picnics, tropical pineapple celebrations, and colourful Hawaiian treats, breaks and lunches at Engage!26 Maui proved once again that every moment of the itinerary deserves thoughtful design.
